During a day-long workshop on ‘Approval process and e-governance’ at Lucknow University, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) Adviser, M K Hada, made a startling revelation that in a surprise inspection conducted by AICTE in 400 engineering colleges, as many as 350 were found not fulfilling basic norms stipulated by the council. The proliferation of engineering colleges providing sub-standard education across the country has led to a situation where supply is outstripping demand. “Over 90% of the engineering colleges are in the country are flouting AICTE norms.” Hada said.
The workshop was organised by the department of business administration at Lucknow University. Addressing representatives of various technical institutes, Hada spoke at length about the problem of poor admissions plaguing technical institutions as a result of which over hundreds of technical colleges across the country have sent their request to AICTE for closure.
The workshop is being conducted across the country, in a bid to disseminate information on AICTE’s online approval process. AICTE has so far covered 25 states. AICTE has eased out approval process by following the e-governance methodology. E-governance is aimed at ensuring transparency, accessibility and quick disposal through online solution to over 15,000 technical institutions in India.
On the sidelines of the occasion Hada informed that the engineering colleges / technical institutes which have been identified as flouting the AICTE norms will be served with notices to overcome the deficiencies, and those failing will not be granted extension for next academic session while shifting the students on their roll to other colleges.
