Following a dispute of seniority among the direct recruits and those promoted to the grade of professor under the Assessment Promotion Scheme (APS), the recruitment of professors at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), which was initialized in December 2012, have been put on hold.
Confirming the reports, the sources in the Union Health Ministry, said that the decision was taken on February 7.
A senior health ministry official said, “The issues raised by the faculty members have been examined and it has been decided that the advertisement issued by AIIMS be kept in abeyance and no action pursuant to it be taken until further orders.” He said a committee headed by former health secretary P K Pradhan has been appointed to examine issues arising out of the advertisement and recommend course of action.
However there has been opposition to the decision to put the recruitment process on hold. It is understood that, one of the activists opposing the decision, Rajnarayan has written to PM vide a letter, which alleges that the whole dispute is for opposing the implementation of reservation policy, since now this year it has to be implemented in recruitment and promotion as well. Earlier direct recruitment were carried out in 2003 and 2005 were not opposed since there was no reservation in promotion then.
Faculty Association of AIIMS, however has refuted the allegation.
AIIMS had advertised for 37 posts in the professor category, of which 20 were unreserved, 13 posts for applicants in OBC category and four seats for the SC category applicants.
