They can work in the health clubs as nutrition advisor. They can have specialization in obesity, pediatrics, diabetes, heart ailments which has the scope for becoming a specialist consultant as private practice. Food industry has a vast requirement of qualified dieticians for planning and improving their products and developing new products as well. The nutritionists also have excellent prospects in mass media where top priority lies in disseminating vital information on healthy living. The today’s trends shows increasing awareness about health and fitness and so the demand of qualified nutritionists is proportionately increasing. The field is observed to be particularly dominated by women.

Programs & Eligibility for Dietician & Nutritionist

Candidates seeking admission to the course in Bachelor program in Nutrition & Dietetics are required to have 10+2 in science stream with physics, chemistry, home science and biology.

Postgraduation program may be Master program (M.Sc.) of 2 years duration in Dietetics and Nutrition or 1 year Post-Graduation Diploma in Dietetics and Public Health Nutrition (DDPHN). Those with Bachelors degree in food science, home science, hotel management & catering technology, microbiology, biochemistry and medicine are eligible for Post Graduate level Degrees or Diplomas. The one year DDPHN course has a compulsory three-month internship, working in a hospital under a qualified dietician.
