Physical education has been one of the constituent parts of the education system in India. Physical education mainly focuses on the development of physical and mental fitness, development of neuromuscular skills, and development of character and personality. To study physical education, one should also be energetic, enthusiastic, physically fit, patient, determined, and have a sporting spirit.
Course Details
Courses in the field of physical education are offered at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. At the graduation level, one can pursue physical education through B.PEd program. At the post graduate level, one can take up M.PEd course (it is generally for trainers and managers). To be eligible for UG courses, students must have completed 10+2 level of examination, or its equivalent, with any subject of physical education. For the PG courses, one should complete graduation with physical education, from any statutory University. In the curriculum of the courses, students are given practical training in the respective fields, apart from theoretical knowledge. They are given practical exposure through inter-college/inter-state or higher level sports competitions.
Career Prospects
After completing a course in physical education, many sportspersons, particularly professional players, can join teams or sports clubs to represent their state / country in various national and international events. Apart from being a professional player, one can also become a physical education instructor, coach, umpire/referee, sport and leisure club manager, sports photojournalist, sports journalist, or sports administrator, sports goods manufacturer/marketing executive, commentator etc.

Remuneration
Remuneration in the field of physical education largely depends upon the position and role. However, majority of the professionals earn according to their experience in the field as well as consistency in their performance. At the minimum as a physical training instructor at school level, the salary may be Rs. 10,000.
