At least 15 students aggrieved over not getting expected score in the recently announced Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) has dragged Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to the court. The score of JEE Main is important for not only securing admissions into reputed centrally funded technical institutes (CFTIs) and NITs but also will decide if the students may or not appear in the second part JEE Advanced mandatory for admissions to prestigious IITs. So, loss of very few marks would make the chances bleak for some meritorious students.
Petitioners claim that the answers which were given by them in the examinations were indeed correct according to the answer keys released by some reputed tuition classes. They have been demanding that the CBSE should have released the answer keys for verification.
The petitioner students and their parents have claimed that several mails have been written to the authorities but without any response in most cases, in the case when the response was received it does not contain any specific consideration of the plea but stereotype, mechanical and arbitrary.
The students, who have come together, will be represented by senior advocate Chetan Sharma. They claimed there is not a single regional office to attend to the grievances of the petitioners and other candidates, and even the helpline service no longer works. When results of the JEE (Main) Exam 2013 were declared, there was a “sea of difference” between expected marks and declared result of the petitioners, claimed a parent.
Close to 10 other students plan to file interventions in the Delhi HC and to ask that the admission process be stayed.
