Actually the results which were scheduled to be declared on October 8, but were withheld for obtaining the opinion of MCI on the issue of enhancement in the bar of passing percentage, for which the approval was only received on Thursday. Officials are attributing the lower pass percentage to the revised criteria for clearing the exam.
University officials said the pass percentage dropped as the exam rules have been made more stringent. Students now have to score a minimum of 50% marks in each paper to clear the exam. Earlier, they needed an aggregate of 50%.
According to Vice-chancellor Dr Mayil Vahanan Natarajan, the change in the passing criteria was necessary for enhancement to the medical education standards.
