Report about France slipping in educational standards as compared to most European countries and USA, has prompted the French President Francois Hollande to announce certain wide-ranging reforms to the countries education system. The first part of the restructuring is coming a total ban on homework and home assignments given in schools.
“An education program is, by definition, a societal program. Work should be done at school, rather than at home,” the New York Daily News quoted Hollande, as saying.
Hollande’s concern is about the disadvantaged children who do not have support at home as against privileged children benefiting from parental assistance on take-home assignments.
According to a report by France 24, Hollande’s extensive education reform plans also include increasing financial aid while combating truancy. He also intends to provide incentives for teachers in difficult area, the report said.
