Indira Gandhi Government Medical College (IGGMC), Nagpur, Maharashtra, may get clearance for 60-100 MBBS seats by Medical Council of India (MCI) for the academic year 2012-13, as the MCI team, consisting of Dr. S K Pande (anatomy professor, BHU), Dr. Sanjay Dixit (Indore) and Dr. Karlika (anesthetist, Ahmedabad) who visited the IGGMC are reported to be satisfied with both staff and infrastructure.
The three-member team paid a two-day visit to the college as part of routine inspection; conducted the proceeding by going around most of the departments, ward and head counting. The overall deficiency has been reduced to 3% while resident doctors deficiency has been reduced to 10-11%, since the council’s last visit / inspection that was carried out about a year ago on June 6 ‘ 2011. The Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) had recently transferred teachers to this college to meet the deficiencies. The council is believed to not hold back the clearance if the deficiency is less than 5%.
