JEE Advanced Exam Pattern and Top 20 Percentile Formula In reply to a question “will there be any change in the exam format in 2014″ in FAQ section of IIT-B website, it says, “the exam format for JEE Advanced may change in 2014. IITs will update the details regarding the same at a later date.”

The newly introduced 2-tier entrance exam proposed for IITs, NITs and other centrally funded technical institutes is scheduled to kick off in April 2013. JEE Advanced is the second stage exam in which the top 1.5 lakh students who also satisfy the condition of being in top 20 percentile of their class XII board may only appear, to compete for admissions to the IITs. The students with just JEE Main may apply to the admission in NITs and other centrally funded engineering and technology institutes.

While it has been notified that the JEE Advanced 2013 will consist of 2 papers of three hours each comprising of multiple choice questions from the subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, it seems, it has yet not been finalized if the pattern will remain same in following years.

As per one of the provisions candidate qualifying for JEE Advanced should also fall in the top 20 percentile bracket of their respective board exams. However if the testing agencies fail to provide the percentile score, CBSE score for top 20 percentile of qualifying students in respective category will be accepted.

Students who passed class XII in 2012 are given second chance to appear for JEE next year will be considered on the basis of 60% eligibility criteria as was applicable in 2012. Top 20 percentile criteria shall apply only to those students who appear (or even reappear) for the class 12 boards in 2013.

Registration process for JEE Main2013 will start from November 1 and end on December 15, 2012. Candidates can fill application forms online. Candidates qualifying JEE-Main will have to apply online for JEE Advanced from May 8 to May 13, 2013.

JEE Advanced results will be declared on June 23, 2013. The recent notification also states that a students’ percentile score will be drawn out from all the subjects taken in Class XII exam instead of only science subjects.
