Online registration for the JEE Main, the first of the newly proposed two tier entrance exams for admissions to NITs, IITs and other centrally funded engineering institutions, to be held for the first time in 2013, will begin from Thursday, 8 November. The entire registration process will have to be done online only. The JEE online registration form will be accessible on the official site until December 15, 2012.
The exam, to be conducted by JEE Apex Board will decided the admissions to the NITs other centrally funded engineering institutions, based on merit list drawn considering 40% weightage to Std XII board marks and 60% weightage to JEE (main), the weightage to school board marks to be considered only after normalization.
JEE Main will further decide the eligibility to the second entrance exam, JEE Advanced, exclusively for the admissions to the IITs.
The exam for which the registration will open on 8th November, JEE Main, will consist of paper-I and paper-II. While the paper I is for all those who want to pursue engineering, the paper II is for students who want to study architecture or planning at non-IIT institutes.

The online exam for paper-I will be held from April 8-25 and candidates will be required to make their slot/date selection through online mode between February 1-15. If an online test candidate does not make this selection then a randomly selected slot will be assigned, based on the availability.
Maharashtra has decided to participate in the JEE from 2014. Hence, for the next year, admission to state colleges will be done through the older format of MHT-CET.
