With about 45,000 students on roll, City Montessori School of Lucknow has been adjudged as the largest school in the world and has found a place in 57th and 2013 edition of Guinness Book of World Records. The entry in the Guinness, which documents the world’s most unique and selective records, has enthused the students and staff.
The school with the most number of pupils on roll in the world however had a very humble start with just 5 students. Started on a loan of Rs.300 the school has traveled a long way to achieve the feat of being number one in the world with highest number of pupils, and taken note of by Guinness.
The school was founded in 1959 by Jagdish Gandhi and his wife Bharti Gandhi in a rented premises. The school was also awarded the prestigious UNESCO Prize for Peace Education in 2002, becoming the only school worldwide ever to receive this honour.
