In an effort to bring parity with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Delhi, pattern of examination, The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has applied to the Maharashtra State Government to consider its proposal for reduction of the internal assessment marks of Secondary School Certificate (SSC, std X) examination to 20 from the next academic year.
Informing this to TOI , the board chairman, Sarjerao Jadhav said that the change will be applicable for science and mathematics subjects.
The board has revised the internal assessment marks to 20 for standard IX in the revised syllabus and the same will continue for SSC (std. X) if the proposal sent to state government is approved.
The mathematics subject, which is currently of total 150 marks, out of which 30 are for internal assessment, will now be revised to 100, out of which 40 marks will be each of Geometry and Algebra and 20 marks for internal assessment.
Similarly, the Science paper for SSC, which is currently of 100 marks with 60 for theory paper and 40 for internal assessment, will be revised to 80 and 20 respectively.
This re-arrangement of marks distribution is expected to resolve issues like the ‘best five’ calculations, which had caused controversy, according to Mr. Jadhav.
