Mangalore University has began the work on setting up a science centre exclusively for students and research scholars attached to its various science departments, under the Promotion of University Research and Scientific Excellence (PURSE) scheme of the department of science and technology, government of India.
Under the scheme the varsity will get Rs 9 crore, of which the varsity has received Rs 3 crore. It would be spent on buying eight highly sophisticated equipments for the centre. At present, there are 385 research scholars in the varsity and the university will pay Rs 8,000 as stipend per month for selected 28 research scholars.
