Manipal University has announced on Monday that the university would conduct online entrance tests (OET) for all its courses, including MBBS, BTech and BPharm from April 15 to May 15, 2013. The university has also decided to increase the number of test centres from 30 to 50. The information was provided by G K Prabhu, registrar of Manipal University. The university has also decided to introduce 12 new courses. The university currently conducts 320 courses in 18 streams.
The candidates appearing for online entrance test for any of the professional courses may repeat the test if they are not satisfied with their performance and may request to consider the best of the two scores.
Manipal University has decided not to participate in the NEET 2013 and has filed a petition against it in Supreme Court along with the other deemed universities opposing the NEET. However, Prabhu said that the university will abide by the Supreme Court.
Manipal University has also decided to increase the fund to 25 crores from 18 crores set aside for awarding scholarships. Students who score 80% marks in class 12 with family income less than 12.5 lakhs per annum will be eligible for the scholarship. Special scholarships are introduced for the students taking the nursing course as an encouragement to the students.
A few seats in all the courses are reserved for schools and colleges of Academy of General Education. Some of the scholarships offered are Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) scholarship for qualified students, All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) scholarship, merit-cum-means scholarship, the official said.
