Supreme Court bench of Justice K. S. Radhakrishnan and Justice Khehar cleared the proposal made by Health Ministry in regards to online counseling for admissions to MBBS and BDS on Thursday. Now the Union Health Ministry can undertake online counseling for admission of students to undergraduate medical courses for 15% central seats in Government Medical Colleges across the country. The scheme is already operating for postgraduate medical seats.
The new aspect of the scheme is also the students seeking admission to nearly 2500 seats under all-India quota would get three instead of prevailing two chances to exercise their option in choosing their colleges.
The online counseling would also eliminate the chances of central seats being taken away by the states after they fall vacant. There are about 20,000 undergraduate medical seats in Government colleges in the country and all eligible students can take their chances for online counseling for all-India seats.
