The Indira Gandhi National Open University’s (IGNOU’s) Chair for Sustainability Science (CSD) invites applications for one-year online program Post Graduate Diploma in Sustainability Science (PGDSS). The admission process to the course is carried out in June – July every year.
The major focus of the program is on the evolution of Sustainability Science as emerging discipline. The three major pillars of Sustainable Development i.e. Environment, Social and Economic are elaborated in this one year course. The fourth pillar of Sustainable Development i.e. culture is highlighted and linked with the three other pillars and the contemporary issues of Sustainable Development like lifestyle changes, environmental problems etc are also covered explicitly.
The course links the global issues to the local agenda and teaches the approaches in bringing sustainable livelihood in the developing countries with the focus on the major challenges to Sustainable Development. Student has to complete a project work to complete this course.
One-way video and two-way audio web-counseling facilities are provided on the SAVE platform (www.ignouonline.ac.in/save). A number of online counseling sessions are conducted to help the students for understanding the study materials. Students can access the study materials anywhere across the globe online and can attend the counseling session to interact with the expert and with other students.
The Program fee for this one year online P.G. Diploma in Sustainability Science is Rs. 6000. The student can pay admission fee either through online mode or Demand Draft (in favour of IGNOU). The details are available at www.ignouonline.ac.in/save or www.ignou.ac.in.
Students have to appear in the Term End Examination through online mode from any of IGNOU’s regional centres.
After completion of this course, participants will have a broad understanding on the principle of Sustainability Science, issues of Sustainable Development, the different tools and techniques to approach sustainable development and experience of about sustainability science through their project work. This knowledge may be able to equip the student in joining National & International organization that are searching for the professionals who can handle the cross cutting social issues.
The CSD, IGNOU which was established in the year 2007 in this International Decade for the education of Sustainable Development (2004 – 2015) to promote education on Sustainable Development is offering different online program in the area of Sustainability Science. The Chair under the guidance of eminent agricultural scientist Prof. M.S. Swaminathan has developed “Sustainability Science” in the Higher Education System of India for capacity building in Sustainable Development.
