States Approve NEET After early opposition, now states are coming forward in favour of National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) to be conducted for the admission to the health sciences courses throughout the country. The NEET will be conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) under the guidance of Medical Council of India (MCI) from 2013.

There will be no Pre-Medical Tests (PMT) in State CETs with the approval of the NEET. There will be no change in the seat distribution, reservations and the charge for admissions, which lies with the DMER. Presently 15% seats are given to the all India students, and 1% seats are given to Government of India. Out of remaining 84% seats, 70% seats are filled with the students of the region and 30% are filled with the students out of region. The seats are reserved for the students of various categories.

Most State Governments have proposed to conduct NEET on the first Sunday of May, so that the admission process can finish early. But the Centre is yet to take final call. Earlier MCI had put up the information that the test would be conducted on first Sunday of May on its website.

The list of examination centres and application forms will be made available online in December. Hall tickets will be uploaded on the DMER’s website January 2013. Seats for Central Government quota will be filled by June 2013 and rest of the admissions will be completed in July.
