According to a notification issued by State Directorate of Education Maharashtra State issued on 22 November 2013, all the education officers have been advised to stop immediately admission process currently going on in the schools under their control. It has been a practice that schools start admission process for 75% seats that are not covered under RTE Act way ahead of the academic year as they were so far not controlled by any standardized procedure or uniform schedule until now.
The State Director of Education Maharashtra State through the notification has now made it mandatory to all the schools in the state to start the admission process only two months before the schools’ reopening for the new academic year. Meanwhile it is understood that some schools had already started the admission process since September, which now will have to be put on hold.
The notification informs that the norms for admission to the primary schools and uniform schedule to be followed for the admissions will be released by the end of December 2013.
“The new admission schedule will bring about uniformity in the admission procedure”, the State Director of Education Maharashtra State, Mahavir Mane is reported to have said.
The notification applies to all pre-primary schools attached to the primary schools and all the primary schools in the state of Maharashtra. However the standalone pre-primary schools are kept out of the ambit of this notification.
