As part of efforts to address issues relating to examination reforms at higher secondary level, the government has proposed to introduce common question format for Mathematics and Science across all the state and central education boards. The format will be introduced in class XI from the 2013-14 academic session.
A sub-committee set up by the Central Board of School Education (CBSE) has finalised the common design, which will consist of specific number of objective type, analytical or subjective type questions in the examination papers, though the contents may vary from one Board to another. The sub-committee was set up in June last year by CBSE.
Minister of State for HRD, Shashi Tharoor told Lok Sabha that the decision is subject to acceptance by all the state education boards and feedback on the pilot launch.
CBSE and NCERT have already developed a common curriculum for Mathematics and Science, and almost all the Boards have implemented it.
