The results of UPSC 2012 results were declared on Friday, 3rd May, and remarkably showing a strong performance third time in row, there were 12 of women in top 25. It was all women on top in the schedule castes and scheduled tribe (SC/ST) category too, which is for the first time this year.
The first slot goes to Haritha V Kumar, an engineer by qualification and a passionate dancer from Kerala, while V Sriram, a doctor also from the same state stood second. Stuti Charan, a lady with BSc from Jodhpur University stood third. There are 245 women in 998 candidates who were declared successful which amounts closely to 1/4.
The category wise split up of 998 successful candidates is – 457 General (include 23 physically challenged); 295 OBC (9 physically challenged); 169 SC (2 physically challenged); and 77 ST.
Among the top 25 (Merit List), 6 have made it in first attempt, 9 in the second attempt and 8 in third attempt. 2 candidates each had taken the test for the fourth and sixth time to appear in the top 25 slot.
Remarkably Haritha V Kumar, who is the topper this year was allotted Indian Revenue Service (central exise and customs) in the 2011 itself. This was her second attempt for IAS.
